EMERGING FUTURES

RHIA VENTURES

At Rhia Ventures, we are boldly creating a future where addressing disparities is fundamental to women’s health innovation. We are transforming the reproductive and maternal health market by embedding a health equity lens in the innovation process, from identifying unmet needs to measuring outcomes.

By shifting power and resources to those closest to the issues, philanthropy widens its imagination for the future and sharpens focus on what is required for humanity and the planet to thrive. Philanthropy has the opportunity to intentionally co-create solutions with communities that embody abundant wisdom, innovation, and leadership but face systemic barriers to investment and ownership. We can collectively embrace renewed definitions of prosperity, safety, and wellbeing that live up to philanthropy’s highest aspirations for serving the greater good.

THE KNIGHTS & ORCHIDS SOCIETY

We are bringing a world of shared abundance and collective thriving into being by centering Black trans leadership and building systems of care that are by us and for us. Our work is grounded in a vision of liberation that doesn’t just seek equality, but reimagines the very structures that have historically excluded our communities.

Redistributing decision-making power to those most impacted by systemic oppression, allowing communities to shape the solutions that serve them best. Sustaining grassroots leadership that is rooted in lived experience rather than institutional credentials, ensuring that funding aligns with real, on-the-ground needs. Building long-term infrastructure for healing, safety, and autonomy—moving beyond crisis intervention to proactive, community-driven liberation. Breaking cycles of dependency by enabling organizations like TKO to invest in their own capacity, staff, and community programming without strings attached. Transforming philanthropy itself into a tool for justice, where trust, accountability, and solidarity replacing bureaucracy and gatekeeping.

PARTNERS IN ABORTION CARE

We imagine a future where abortion care is approached with an abundance mindset, moving away from the scarcity-driven thinking that has often shaped our movement. When we focus on providing the care our patients truly need, without the constant pressure of financial limitations, both our staff and patients can thrive.

This shift makes it possible for smaller organizations like ours to even exist! We couldn't have started our clinic without philanthropic support. We provide care that is only available in a handful of clinics across the country. The support we received has made access possible for the hundreds of patients we see every year. A unique and invaluable role Tara Health played was in amplifying our work and the success of our partnership. They acted not as a gatekeeper, but as a catalyst for shared power, collaborating with another philanthropic organization to help us secure a low-interest loan. This loan allowed us to pay our staff during our first quarter. Without it, we wouldn’t have been able to open our doors. Partnerships like these have opened doors to foundations that might have otherwise overlooked us. We may be small, but the impact we have on every patient’s life is huge—and Tara Health has been instrumental in helping us achieve that.

SPRINGBOARD TO OPPORTUNITIES

At Springboard to Opportunities, we believe that those closest to the problem are closest to the solution, so we follow the lead of the women we serve. Through the Magnolia Mother’s Trust, we have provided guaranteed income, savings opportunities, mental health support, and leadership development to hundreds of mothers living in federally subsidized housing.

When philanthropy genuinely shifts power and resources, we move from a paradigm of control to one of trust. It is about recognizing that those closest to the challenges are also closest to the solutions. By listening to communities and providing them with the resources they need, without strings attached, we affirm their agency and wisdom. This shift allows for the creation of systems that are responsive, equitable, and rooted in the lived experiences of those they aim to serve. It is not about charity. It is about justice, and the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive.

CARE FOR ALL WITH RESPECT AND EQUITY (CARE) FUND

For too long, care work—largely performed by women of color, immigrants, and underpaid workers—has been undervalued and invisible. Yet, at some point in all our lives, we will be caregivers and we will benefit from the care of loved ones and professional care workers.

At the CARE Fund, we are working toward a future in which care is recognized and valued as essential infrastructure. We believe that this reality is not just possible but necessary for a world rooted in shared abundance and collective thriving.

ANNA SHIREEN WADIA, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Grounded in the belief that meaningful progress requires philanthropy to act as strategic partners in the broader movement for change, the CARE Fund has developed a grantmaking approach that prioritizes peer learning and technical assistance programming for both grantee and donor partners. This approach is in part designed to shift power and resources in ways that unlock the full potential of movements led by those most impacted by injustice. At the CARE Fund, we have witnessed the transformative impact of resourcing caregivers, domestic workers, Black and Indigenous women, and immigrants to collaborate across issues. Policies change. Narratives shift. Advocates are able to move beyond reactive strategies toward long-term, generational change—including the reimagining of care systems themselves. These care systems, long rendered invisible and undervalued, are beginning to be recognized as essential infrastructure and the foundation of a just and inclusive economy.

ABORTION CARE NETWORK

Abortion Care Network fosters a sustainable and accessible abortion care ecosystem by supporting independent abortion providers, who deliver the majority of abortion care in the United States. This ensures essential community-based healthcare access, a vital step for our collective thriving. Our programs connect and resource these community-based providers, fostering shared knowledge and mutual support.
